He Must Increase

This month, my family and I have been reading in the book of John for our nightly Bible study. Just last night, we read John chapter three. One of the most well-known verses of John is in chapter three. It reads:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30
My favorite version of this verse reads:
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”
I’ve read this verse hundreds of times, but I didn’t think about these words coming from John the Baptist until last night. John was the man who was responsible for telling thousands of people about the coming of Jesus. He was there when Jesus began His ministry and He was the one to baptize Jesus. He baptized the SAVIOR! If anyone had reason to boast about knowing Jesus, it would be John.
But in John chapter three, we see John the Baptist’s humility shine through. He could easily have felt proud about what he did to further Jesus’s ministry. Instead, he allowed…
